To make a long story short, I have sailed well over 100,000 nautical miles, have been technical advisor for Cruising World magazine and have completely restored five boats. My experience is a hands-on affair, which is coupled with a strong educational background, having successfully completed the Surveyor Course at the Chapman School of Navigation in Florida in 2005. I am also an ABYC expert electrician as well as a certified ABYC Standards Expert. The reports submitted are typical of SAMS reports with three types of recommendations: A - affecting security, B - long term repairs, and C - cosmetics. The reports can be 10 to 60 pages long and include several color photographs, which illustrate each recommendation.
To the right is Dharma III, a 1977 Westsail 32, which I have completely refitted with Germaine Adolphe, including well over 3,000 hours of labor: engine rebuilt, new rigging, osmosis repairs, replacement of rotten bulkheads, rebuild of masthead, completely new electrical system, plumbing, seacocks, extensive cosmetic work on spars, deck and interior, and much more. This, indeed, is hands-on experience.
Currently, I am Contributing Editor to Cruising World magazine and author of several books.
